HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 156
Reps. St. Germaine and Thompson offered the following resolution:
A resolution to declare August 2025 as Water Quality Month in the state of Michigan.
Whereas, Michigan is home to four of the five Great Lakes, all of which are connected through waterways, such as Lake St. Clair. Together, they form the largest fresh surface water system on earth which is why these lakes are a sense of pride for generations of Michiganders; and
Whereas, Michigan?s rich natural resources are central to our heritage, economy, and outdoor traditions, supporting tourism, agriculture, and recreation across the great state; and
Whereas, The quality of our water is shaped by the care and stewardship of our lakes, rivers, streams, and aquifers, which support Michigan?s unique identity and way of life; and
Whereas, Communities across Michigan play an important role in protecting and monitoring water quality, and public awareness and engagement are key to ensuring safe and sustainable water access; and
Whereas, August is recognized nationally as Water Quality Month, providing an opportunity to reflect on the importance of the freshwater that surrounds our two peninsulas and encourage continued public participation in its care; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare August 2025 as Water Quality Month in the state of Michigan; and be it further
Resolved, That we commend the efforts of individuals, communities, and organizations across Michigan who work to protect and preserve the quality of our state?s waters for current and future generations.
