Rep. Tom Kunse,
from the 100th District, offered the following invocation:
摘ternal God,
Author of liberty and source of wisdom, we gather in this chamber as servants
of the people of Michigan.
Thank You for the
blessings of this great state its beauty, the cities and the farms, and all
the hardworking families. We acknowledge that every good and perfect gift comes
from You.
Grant the members
of this Legislature clear minds and humble hearts. Give us the wisdom that
comes from above, as You have promised in Your Word. Help us to rise above
partisanship when the common good demands it. Instill in us courage to do what
is right in Your eyes, the integrity to resist temptations, and the compassion
to remember the vulnerable among us.
I pray today that
we will never forget that we hold this public trust for just a moment, and that
future generations will judge our stewardship. Guide our debates so that truth
may prevail over falsehood, justice over convenience, and righteousness over self-interest.
Lord, bless the
staff who faithfully support this work, the citizens who watch and pray, and
everyone who calls Michigan home. Lord, please draw us closer to You.
May
the Lord痴 favor rest upon this body today and in all the days ahead. In the
mighty name of Jesus we pray,
Amen.

Posthumus moved that Reps. Brenda Carter, O誰eal and Whitsett be excused from

House Resolution
No. 326.
A resolution to
declare June 2026 as Nuclear Family Month in the state of Michigan.
Whereas, The
nuclear family, consisting of one husband, one wife, and any biological,
adopted, or fostered children is the foundational building block of a strong,
stable, and prosperous society, serving as the primary institution for
nurturing children, instilling values, and fostering civic responsibility; and
Whereas, In 2019,
studies showed that U.S. children were more likely than children anywhere else
in the world to live in single-parent households and nearly a quarter of U.S.
children under the age of eighteen live with one parent and no other adults; and
(PEW Research, 2019)
Whereas, Declining
marriage rates, family instability, and a rise in births outside of marriage
have contributed to significant challenges
for children and communities across the state; and (PEW Research, 2019)
Whereas, Decades of
social science research consistently demonstrates that children raised in a
nuclear family experience positive long-term outcomes, including economic
mobility, emotional well-being, and higher educational attainment; and
Whereas, Fatherless
families are four times more likely to live in poverty compared to married
couple families; and
Whereas, Children
without fathers are ten times more likely to abuse chemical substances, and are
more likely to have mental health and behavioral issues; and
Whereas, Fatherless
youth are twenty times more likely to be incarcerated and eighty-five percent
of youth in prison come from fatherless homes; and
Whereas,
Seventy-one percent of high school dropouts are from fatherless homes; and
Whereas, The
parents within a nuclear family provide complementary roles in caregiving,
mentorship, and support, creating a secure environment that prepares the next
generation to become productive and engaged citizens; and
Whereas, The
challenges of modern life place unique pressures on contemporary households,
making it vital to take the time to encourage, celebrate, and support the
structures that provide children with maximum stability; and
Whereas, Nuclear
Family Month provides an opportunity for communities, religious institutions,
schools, and citizens throughout the state to reflect on ways to strengthen
marital bonds, support parents, and promote the well-being of children; now,
therefore, be it
Resolved by the
House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare
June 2026 as Nuclear Family Month in the state of Michigan.
The resolution was
referred to Committee on Government Operations.

House Resolution
No. 327.
A
resolution to declare June 2026 as Dairy Month in the state of Michigan.
Whereas, Michigan痴
dairy industry is one of the largest agricultural industries in our state with
an annual economic impact of over $8 billion, and our state痴 dairy farmers and
processors play an important role in feeding Michiganders and people across the
nation; and
Whereas, Michigan
has 805 permitted dairy farms of all sizes in our state, with farmers who take
pride in producing safe, nutritious, and delicious products for Michiganders;
and
Whereas, There are
460,000 dairy cows on dairy farms of all sizes in our state, which produced
twelve billion pounds of milk in 2023, ranking Michigan sixth in the
nation for milk production; and
Whereas, Michigan痴
dairy industry generates nearly 111,000 jobs, directly and indirectly, both on
and off the farm; and
Whereas, Michigan
ranks first in milk production per cow among all states in the United States
with an average of 27,695 pounds produced per cow in 2025
Whereas, Michigan
dairy businesses have a range of technologies, from large dairy processors with
automated 喪obotic milking systems to smaller on-farm artisanal cheese makers.
Dairy processing in Michigan supports farm families and communities across the
state and keeps healthy, nutritious dairy products affordable for all
residents; and
Whereas, Dairy
products, including milk, cheese, sour cream, ice cream, and more, are both
delicious and nutritious. Milk alone provides 22% of the calcium, 40% of the
vitamin D, and 10% of the potassium in the American diet. Research shows that
healthy eating styles, including low-fat and fat-free dairy foods, are linked
to a reduced risk of some of the most prevalent chronic diseases in the U.S.,
as well as improved bone health; and
Whereas, National
Dairy Month is traditionally celebrated in June to encourage Americans to
reduce the risks of osteoporosis, high blood pressure, obesity, and colon
cancer through consumption of dairy products and help parents and caregivers
teach children the importance of healthy eating habits, good nutrition, and
physical activity, and how dairy fits into a well-balanced, healthy meal plan;
now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the
House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare
June 2026 as Dairy Month in the state of Michigan.
