Dr. A. Reginald
Best, Minister of Elmwood Park Church of Christ in Detroit, offered the
following invocation:
典o the God of all
creation, we humbly enter this moment in reverence and gratitude. You are Alpha
and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last the source of all
that is just, true, and good. From You flows wisdom that does not waver and truth
that does not bend with circumstance.
We thank You for
Your sustaining grace and enduring goodness. As the Psalmist declares, 閃ay the
peoples praise You, O God; may all the peoples praise You. Then the land will
yield its harvest, and You, our God, will bless us. May that spirit of
gratitude and humility rest upon us now.
We lift before You
the elected officials gathered here today, especially the members of this State
House of Representatives. Grant them wisdom to govern with integrity. Enlighten
their hearts and sharpen their discernment, that they may render decisions that
are fair, thoughtful, and beneficial for all the people of Michigan.
Give them courage
to pursue truth, compassion to seek justice, and steadiness to cultivate peace.
Guard their hearts from pride, steady their minds in moments of strain, and
anchor their leadership in what is honorable and right.
We thank You for
their willingness to serve and for the sacrifices carried quietly beyond public
view. Bless them continually with wise and discerning hearts, that their work
may yield what is excellent, life-giving, and enduring.
And now, O God, as
deliberations unfold and decisions are rendered, let wisdom rise above impulse,
let conviction stand taller than convenience, and let righteousness echo louder
than applause. May what is done in this chamber be measured not only by votes recorded,
but by lives strengthened, communities uplifted, and futures made more secure.
When history looks
back on this moment, may it be said that justice was pursued, integrity was
preserved, and the common good was honored.
We entrust this
gathering to Your sovereign care.
In the name of God
Almighty, we offer this prayer.
Amen.
______
Rep.
Posthumus moved that Reps. Edwards, Paiz and Whitsett be excused from today痴
session.
The
motion prevailed.

Explanation of 哲o Votes
Rep. Myers-Phillips, having reserved the right to explain
her protest against the passage of House Bill No. 4279, made the
following statement:
溺r. Speaker and members of the House:
I wholeheartedly support the Michigan Army and Air
National Guard and its dedicated members. I also support the work of our federal,
state, and local government agencies, as well as nonprofit and faith-based
organizations, and especially skilled trade partners that currently welcome and
support guard members seeking careers in the skilled trades. I do not support
House Bill 4279 because, while well-intentioned, the proposal is duplicative. Also,
state resources are already strained without additional revenue sources.
Finally, to address the skilled trade shortage, I support continuing to invest
in existing resources that serve all Michiganders who are capable, qualified,
and willing to pursue careers in skilled trades.
