CONTENT
The bill would amend the Michigan Memorial Highway Act to designate the portion of Highway US-131 in Mecosta County between the intersection of Highway US-131 and 11 Mile Road and the intersection of Highway US-131 and Old State Road as the "Sgt. Matthew Webber memorial highway".

BRIEF RATIONALE
Sergeant Matthew Webber was born on October 30, 1982, in Grand Rapids. Sergeant Webber joined the Michigan National Guard in 1999 and was called to active duty in June of 2005. He was stationed in Habbaniyah, Iraq. On November 21, 2005, an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee during combat operations, and he sustained injuries. He was rushed to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, but succumbed to his injuries on April 27, 2006. The bill should be passed to recognize his service and honor his sacrifice.

House Bill 4003 is a reintroduction of House Bill 5635 from the 2023-2024 Legislative Session. House Bill 5635 passed the House and was referred to the Senate Committee on Local Government but received no further action.
