The bill would amend the Human Trafficking Notification Act to require hotels, motels, and other similar lodgings to post a human trafficking notice on their premises.

Currently, human trafficking notices must be posted at rest stops, welcome facilities, adult entertainment establishments, public airports, and properties where human trafficking has been known to be conducted. The notice must be posted in English and Spanish, and if required by the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, in a language commonly used within the area of that location. The notice must be at least 8.5 inches by 11 inches and contain the following statement in boldface type of at least 14-point font:

If you or someone you know is being forced to engage in any activity and cannot leave, whether the activity is commercial sex, housework, farm work, or any other activity, please contact the National Human Trafficking Resource Center hotline at 1-888-373-7888 or text 233733 to access help and services. The victims of human trafficking are protected under U.S. laws and the laws of this state.

The bill would require a hotel to also post a human trafficking notice on its premises. "Hotel" would mean a building or group of buildings located on the same or adjoining pieces of real property that is used in the business of providing lodging to travelers and temporary residents. The term would include a motel, inn, or other similar lodging.
