BARRY LYN HAUSE MEM. HIGHWAY H.B. 4082:
SUMMARY OF BILL
REPORTED FROM COMMITTEE
House Bill 4082 (as reported without amendment)
Sponsor: Representative Angela Witwer
House Committee: Transportation, Mobility and Infrastructure
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Michigan Memorial Highway Act to designate the portion of Highway
I-96 in Ionia County, beginning at mile marker 76 and extending east to mile marker 77 as the "Barry Lyn Hause Memorial Highway".
BRIEF RATIONALE
The construction workers who build the State's roads, like operating engineer Barry Lyn Hause, provide a valuable service. On September 24, 2019, while cutting concrete on a stretch of I-96 near Portland, Barry Lyn Hause was struck by a driver. Six days later, on September 30, 2019, he passed away. To honor his memory and remind people to drive safely, it has been suggested that the stretch of I-96 referenced above become the "Barry Lyn Hause Memorial Highway".
