Pastor Scott Distler, Senior Pastor of E-Free Church in Gaylord, offered the following invocation:

擢ather in heaven, I thank You for this opportunity to lift up this group to You in prayer. I am thankful for each and every one of them and for the sacrifice that they make to be in the position You have allowed them to hold. I sincerely believe that they have chosen this path because of their love and commitment to the people of our state.

Certainly, I pray for them as lawmakers that You would grant them Your wisdom. You have promised in Your word that if we lack wisdom we can ask of You and You will give it to us. Based on that promise I ask You to fill their hearts, their minds and their lips with wisdom.

But more than praying for them as lawmakers, I pray for them in the higher calling of their lives. I pray for them as spouses and ask that You would strengthen their marriages and their relationships. I pray for them as parents and grandparents that You would allow them to have a significant impact on their children and grandchildren. May You strengthen each of their family units in such a way that they would be drawn closer to each other and, more importantly, drawn closer to You.

I also want to pray for each of them as individuals. I am sure that each one of them has something that is weighing on their mind and heart, a concern that is the last thing on their mind when they go to sleep at night and the very first thing they think of when they wake in the morning. It may be a relational issue, a financial issue, a physical issue, a mental issue or something else. Obviously, I do not know what that issue is but You do and You care. You are the one Who said that we can cast all of our cares upon You because You care for us. So whatever that issue is that each person in this room is facing today, I pray that You would work in it and that Your grace and Your peace would guard their hearts and their minds.

Finally, Father, I ask that You would do something specific today to encourage each of these individuals so that when their heads hit their pillows tonight, they will be reveling in what a good, faithful and loving God that You are.

And I pray all of these things in the name of Your Son, my personal savior, Jesus Christ.

Amen.
