Rep. TC Clements, from the 56th District, offered the following invocation:
“Dear God,
Today I come before You praying that You would forgive me of my sins and hear my prayer. Lord in a world where there is so much noise help us to be break through the distractions and focus on what matters. Help us to have honor, faith, and an unyielding commitment to integrity. Help us to recognize each other as people first and allies or combatants last. Help us to focus on the traditions of this nation which inspired a concept of government that the world had never known. Lord, We the people are the government and our rights and blessings from You are the bedrock for our liberties, our freedom, and our prosperity. Help us to never forget that we the people come before that of the institutions that were designed to serve us.
In a world where we can be anything help us to be kind. To be bold without being brash. To be confident without being cocky and to pursue our passions with purpose and dedication. Help us to listen Lord. Listen to our neighbors crying out for help. Listen to our state struggling to regain its footing. Help us as leaders to stand for something. Not to stand for ourselves or our own interests, but rather to stand for those that asked us to be their voice. Help us to see our roles as ambassadors and as servants. Help us to focus on doing the work of the people. Let us always be mindful and joyful with the concept of service above self.
Lastly Lord I pray that You would heal our nation. Heal our hearts and provide us with clarity to feel forgiven and ready to try again. Through our own eyes we can be overwhelmed by the dark distractions of this world. Help us to see the opportunity before us. Help us to recognize the value in our founding principles and help us be willing to defend those principles without reservation.
In Your name we pray, amen.”

Motions and Resolutions
Reps. Kahle, Bezotte, Ellison, Haadsma, Rabhi, Sabo, Sneller, Steenland and Thanedar offered the following resolution:
House Resolution No. 236.
A resolution to declare February 23, 2022, as Scoliosis Screening Awareness Day in the state of Michigan.
Whereas, It is important to increase the public’s awareness of scoliosis and help children, parents, adults, and health care providers understand, recognize, and treat the complexities of spinal deformities such as scoliosis; and
Whereas, Scoliosis, an abnormal curvature of the spine, is a condition affecting an estimated six to nine million Americans, and can strike regardless of gender, race, age, or economic status; and
Whereas, Scoliosis patients make more than 600,000 visits to health providers yearly, with approximately 30% of patients requiring bracing, and 10% requiring surgery; and
Whereas, The primary age of onset for scoliosis is between ten and 15 years old, with females being up to eight times more likely to progress to a curve magnitude that would require treatment; and
Whereas, Screening programs are quick, unobtrusive, and allow for early detection and treatment opportunities which may alleviate the worst effects of the condition; and
Whereas, This day is designated to raise awareness of scoliosis screening, provide support to those who are diagnosed with this condition, and to recognize the need for increased research and funding to improve treatment; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare February 23, 2022, as Scoliosis Screening Awareness Day in Michigan.
The question being on the adoption of the resolution,
The resolution was adopted.
Reps. Haadsma, Weiss, Brenda Carter, Sabo, Clemente, Coleman, Breen, Stone, Hope, Neeley, Brabec, Sowerby, Garza, Liberati, O’Neal, Pohutsky, Steckloff, Cavanagh, Rabhi, Cherry, Steenland, Tyrone Carter, Manoogian, Bolden, Kuppa, Rogers, Sneller, Scott, Thanedar, Ellison, Aiyash, Peterson, Koleszar, Hood, Young, Shannon, Jones, Tate, Hertel, Brixie, Morse and Whitsett offered the following resolution:
House Resolution No. 237.
A resolution to urge the President, Congress, and the National Labor Relations Board to enact policies banning employers from permanently replacing striking employees.
Whereas, The right to organize and strike is essential to labor rights and the protection of workers in the United States. Without these rights, employees would have no recourse against unfair treatment by their employers; and
Whereas, The right to organize and strike requires that workers are protected against being replaced during a strike. Allowing employers to replace striking workers tips the balance entirely in the favor of employers during negotiations; and
Whereas, In 2016, the National Labor Relations Board restricted employers’ right to permanently replace workers during a strike. Under the board’s decision, employers cannot replace employees as a way to punish them or prevent future strikes. Strikers can still be replaced to ensure continuous operations; and
Whereas, On December 7, 2021, the Kellogg Company announced that it would permanently replace 1,400 striking employees after the union rejected an agreement to end the strike. This action demonstrates that current protections against the replacement of striking workers are inadequate; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we urge the President, Congress, and the National Labor Relations Board to enact policies banning employers from permanently replacing striking employees; and be it further
Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the President of the United States, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the President of the United States Senate, the members of the Michigan congressional delegation, and the Chairman of the National Labor Relations Board.
The resolution was referred to the Committee on Government Operations.
