STOCKHOLDER REQ'S; HORT. ASSOC. S.B. 1019:
SUMMARY OF INTRODUCED BILL
IN COMMITTEE
Senate Bill 1019 (as introduced 4-26-22)
CONTENT
The bill would amend Public Act 80 of 1855, which authorizes the formation of local agricultural and horticultural societies, to eliminate a $25 cap on the fee that a prospective local agricultural or horticultural society member must pay to become a stockholder or member of the society.
The Act allows 10 or more residents who wish to do so to form a local agricultural or horticultural society in any county, township, city, or village (or two or more of them). Among other things, incorporation of this type allows the association to acquire real property, exempt from taxation, for horticultural or agricultural society purposes.
A person who has attained 18 years of age, pays the society a fee of up to $25, and subscribes to the articles of association becomes a stockholder or member in the society and is entitled to all the privileges and immunities of membership. The bill would eliminate the $25 cap.
