Dear
Father, I thank You so much for the opportunity to represent the people of
Michigan here in the Senate, for the opportunity to serve them, and to work
together to provide righteous laws—laws that reflect on who You are and who You’ve
revealed Yourself to be in Your Son.
Help
us, Father, to be mindful of the people we serve and to be mindful of the
struggles that they have. Help us to listen to one another, and to take into
account the different walks of life that each of us has been through and that
our citizens are doing right now. Help us to be advocates for those who are
downtrodden—for the widowed and the orphans especially—those whom You speak so
much about in Your word, whom You care about, and whom You judge each of us on
if we don’t reflect that care that You have for them.
Father,
the laws that we work on together ought to be righteous, ought to reflect
righteousness, and doing right for the people of this state. Help us to be passionate
about knowing You so that we can know what is righteous.
I pray
this in the name of Your Son, Jesus. Amen.
The President, Lieutenant Governor Gilchrist, led the
members of the Senate in recital of the Pledge
of Allegiance.
