Rev. Dave McCarty, Pastor of Emmanuel
Lutheran Church in Britton, offered the following invocation:
“Dear Heavenly Father, we come before
You this day in the name of Jesus, and on behalf of those individuals assembled
here in this chamber, who are serving as representatives for the people of the
great state of Michigan. We come to You in prayer because You, O Lord, are the
Supreme ruler over heaven and earth, and You have the power and authority to
lift up and take down leaders within our governmental system of rule. How do we
know this? We know it to be true because of the words You gave to the Apostle
Paul to share with us in the book of Romans Chapter 13:1, ‘Let every person be
subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from
God, and those who exist have been instituted by God.’
God Almighty, what an honor and high
calling it is for each of these men and women who have been instituted by You
and chosen to serve the citizens of their particular District. A great deal of
confidence has been placed, in each of these State Representatives, by the very
ones whom they are here in this House to speak up for. At times the
expectations placed upon those who serve in such positions of nobility can
create an extremely heavy weight for them to bear. That is why we are asking
You, as Lord of All, to generously pour out on the members of this governing
body, the profound wisdom and insight they need to be able to faithfully and
respectfully perform the duties of the offices which they are presently serving
in.
Triune God, You truly are an
omniscient, all-knowing Counselor, and You are the only One Who has the ability
to see the days and weeks that are laid out before us. We ask that You would
guide the discussion and the decisions of this group of legislators as they
meet in session, so they might be led to make the correct choices concerning
the future health and well-being of their constituents and all the other people
who are residents of Michigan. But most of all may their hearts and minds be
set on doing those things which are pleasing in Your sight both now and as the
future unfolds.
Lord of Life, as we bring this time of
prayer to a close, we ask for Your hand of protection to rest on this assembly.
Please watch over and keep the men and women of this Legislative Body and their
families in Your tender loving care. May You be an ever present part of their
lives as they seek to serve You, their families, communities, and the citizens
of the state of Michigan.
We ask all these things in the name of
Jesus Christ, Your Son, and Our Lord and Savior, amen!”

Pohutsky moved that Rep. Cambensy be excused from today’s session.
