A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled
"Michigan vehicle code,"
by amending section 20a (MCL 257.20a), as amended by 2012 PA 239, and by adding sections 20b and 30d.
the people of the state of michigan enact:
Sec. 20a. "Historic vehicle" means a vehicle that is over 25 years old, and that is owned solely as a collector's item and for participation in club activities, exhibitions, tours, parades, and similar uses, including mechanical testing, but is not used for general transportation. For purposes of this section, use of the vehicle during the month of August in each year is considered an exhibition. Historic vehicle includes a historic military surplus vehicle.
Sec. 20b. "Historic military surplus vehicle" means a military surplus vehicle that is over 25 years old, and that is owned solely as a collector's item and for participation in club activities, exhibitions, tours, parades, and similar uses, including mechanical testing, but is not used for general transportation. For purposes of this section, use of the vehicle during the month of August in each year is considered an exhibition.
Sec. 30d. "Military surplus vehicle" means a vehicle, other than a tracked vehicle, that meets all of the following requirements:
(a) The vehicle is a high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle, commonly known as a Humvee or HMMWV, or other motor vehicle manufactured for military usage.
(b) The vehicle was manufactured by or under the direction of the United States Armed Forces.
(c) The vehicle was originally manufactured in compliance with 49 CFR 571.7 and military standard MIL-STD-1180B entitled "Safety Standards for Military Ground Vehicles".
(d) The vehicle was subsequently authorized for sale to civilians.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days after the date it is enacted into law.
Enacting section 2. This amendatory act does not take effect unless Senate Bill No. 344 of the 100th Legislature is enacted into law.
