A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled
"Michigan vehicle code,"
by amending section 676 (MCL 257.676), as amended by 2003 PA 184.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 676. (1) A person shall not allow a motor vehicle to
stand on a highway unattended without engaging the parking brake or
placing the vehicle in park and stopping the motor of the vehicle.
If the vehicle is standing upon a grade, the front wheels of the
vehicle shall be turned to the curb or side of the highway.
(2) R 28.1458 of the Michigan Administrative Code is
rescinded.
(3) This section does not modify the obligation of an insurer
to reimburse a claimant for theft of a motor vehicle as provided in
the insurance code of 1956, 1956 PA 218, MCL 500.100 to 500.8302.

A person who violates this
section subsection (1) is
responsible for a civil infraction.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days
after the date it is enacted into law.
