CONTENT
The bill would amend the Michigan Memorial Highway Act to designate the portion of Highway M-15 within the Village of Ortonville as the "Purple Heart Trail".
The bill would take effect 90 days after its enactment.
BACKGROUND
According to the United States Department of Defense, the Purple Heart is America's oldest military award. It is presented to soldiers who are wounded by enemy combatants. The award originated as a merit badge given to soldiers by George Washington that recognized their heroic deeds. Its modern design was created by Elizabeth Will and features a profile image of Washington.
