Rev. Dr. Nana’ Kratochvil, Pastor of Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Michigan in Mt. Pleasant, offered the following invocation:

“God of Many Names and Many Nations;

Spirit of Life and Love,

We ask for Your presence among us today.

We give thanks for the gift of this beautiful day, for the return of sunshine and warm breezes, and for life emerging again on our portion of the earth.

We yearn for the first sign of Spring: crocus or cardinal, daffodil or dandelion. It has been a long and snowy winter.

We give thanks for this gathered body, elected representatives of all the varied people of this great state of Michigan. We ask that You support them as they struggle together to craft the laws that will best serve our people—whether they be rural or urban, line worker or office worker, old or young, gay or straight, Republican or Democrat, black or brown or white, or combinations of those colors, Christian or Jewish or Muslim or none of the above. We are all in this together.

Help us, we pray, remember this as we work in this chamber and go forth into the larger world. We have only this small planet, the fourth from the sun. We share it with many, many others. It is our home, our only home. If we are to live and thrive on this small and beautiful globe we must learn to love and care for each other, as well as this, our beautiful state, nation and planet.

Help us all, O Spirit, and guide our elected leaders as they make difficult decisions today and every day.

Shalom and Salaat.

Blessed Be and Amen.”

The communications were referred to the Clerk.

The following communication from the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs was received and read:

March 6, 2015

In accordance with Section 8 of the Michigan Employment Security Act, being Section 421.8 of the Michigan Compiled Laws, the Unemployment Insurance Agency is required to report annually to the Governor and the Legislature any amount, in excess of $1.00, that the maximum weekly unemployment benefit rate would increase if the annual increase in the United States Department of Labor’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) were applied to the maximum weekly benefit rate.

I am therefore transmitting to the Governor, and to the House and Senate for publication along with this letter in the Journals of their respective bodies, the enclosed report showing that since the last increase in the maximum weekly benefit rate to $362.00, the increase in the CPI would result in an increase in the maximum weekly unemployment benefit rate to $460.94.

Respectfully submitted,

Sharon Moffett-Massey

Director
