CONTENT

 

The bill would amend the Michigan Memorial Highway Act to name the portion of highway Business Route I-96 within the city limits of Lansing as the "Lansing Firefighter Dennis E. Rodeman Memorial Highway".

 

The bill would take effect 90 days after its enactment.

BACKGROUND

 

Dennis E. Rodeman was a seven-year veteran firefighter and emergency medical technician with the Lansing Fire Department. Prior to his career in Lansing, Rodeman worked as a firefighter in Vermontville, and served a tour of duty in Fallujah, Iraq, in Charlie Company, 1st Battalion of the 24th Marine Regiment, United States Marine Corps. He was a graduate of Maple Valley High School located in Vermontville.

 

Rodeman died on September 9, 2015, from injuries sustained after being hit by a vehicle while collecting donations for a "Fill the Boot" fund-raiser for muscular dystrophy.
