Rev. Fr. Nicholas Marcus, Presiding Priest of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Grand Rapids, offered the following invocation:

“O God, great and wonderful, in surpassing goodness and infinite providence You govern the universe. You have bestowed on us and this American nation the good things already vouchsafed to us. Lord, You Who commanded Light to shine out of darkness, enlighten our minds’ eyes and grant to us wisdom and truth. In the multitude of Your mercies, Lord, remember all Your people present here with us, praying with us, and all our brothers and sisters. Glorify them in return by Your divine power.

Grant peace to the world, to this nation, to this assembly that has gathered together in likeness of the founding fathers of this American nation; and who continue upon this foundation of a more perfect Union, establishing Justice, insuring domestic Tranquility, providing for the common defense, promoting the general Welfare and upholding and securing the Blessings of Liberty.

Our God, the God Who saves, You teach us justly to thank You for the good things which You have done and still do for us. Teach us to live in holiness and perfect Love. Beseeching You, O Lord, we pray for our country, for our President, for our Armed Forces, all those in public service and all Your peoples of this great nation of individuals united as Americans. Amen.”
