The Speaker, on behalf of the entire membership of the House of Representatives, offered the following resolution:
House Resolution No. 306.
A resolution of tribute offered as a memorial for Gino H. Polidori, former member of the House of Representatives.
Whereas, The members of this legislative body were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Gino Polidori. For six years, he represented the people of Dearborn in this chamber. A genuine, generous, and caring leader, he worked hard to improve life in his community and the entire state of Michigan; and
Whereas, Born and raised in Dearborn, Gino Polidori dedicated his entire life to serving the community that he loved. Upon graduating from Fordson High School, he began his career with the city of Dearborn in the Recreation Department. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1966, he joined the city's fire department. Six years later, he would be appointed fire chief; and
Whereas, For the next 23 years, Gino Polidori would be a leader in Michigan's public safety community, serving at different times as president of the Michigan Fire Chiefs Association, the Southeastern Michigan Fire Chiefs Association, and the Western Wayne County Mutual Aid Pact Association. At the state level, he was appointed by the governor to the State Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Commission, and he also served on the state's Underground Storage Tanks Committee. At the same time, he helped establish a bachelor's degree program for firefighters at Wayne State University and would be the program's first graduate. He retired as fire chief in 1996 and continued his leadership in Dearborn as a member of the city council for the next eight years; and
Whereas, In 2004, Gino Polidori was elected to represent the residents of Dearborn in the Michigan House of Representatives. He chaired the Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security and served as a member of committees dealing with a variety of issues related to education, insurance, government operations, families, and retirement. A sponsor of many public acts that improved life in our state, he will likely be most remembered for his efforts to ensure children in foster care are placed with relatives or people of the same religion and to ensure that veterans who died without resources, friends, or family would receive a proper burial; and
Whereas, Only four years after completing his time with this legislative body, we now mourn Gino Polidori's passing. The community of Dearborn and the state of Michigan have lost one of their leaders, but his legacy will remain for years to come; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we offer this expression of our highest tribute to honor the memory of Gino H. Polidori, a member of this legislative body from 2005 to 2010; and be it further
Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the Polidori family as evidence of our lasting esteem for his memory.
