A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the state
constitution of 1963, by adding section 55 to article IV, to reduce
compensation for state legislators who have a certain number of
unexcused absences from legislative session.
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
state of Michigan, That the following amendment to the state
constitution of 1963, to reduce compensation for legislators who
have a certain number of unexcused absences from legislative
session, is proposed, agreed to, and submitted to the people of the
state:
ARTICLE IV
Sec. 55. If during a calendar year a legislator does not
attend session on 10 or more days that the legislative body is in
session, that legislator forfeits his or her salary and benefits
for the remainder of that calendar year unless the legislator
receives an excused absence.
Resolved further, That the foregoing amendment shall be
submitted to the people of the state at the next general election
in the manner provided by law.
