A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1307.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1307. (1) If a school official or other individual
employed at a public school witnesses or receives information
regarding an incident that may constitute maltreatment or injury of
a child at school, then, as soon as practicable after witnessing
the incident or receiving the information, the school official or
other individual shall inform the parent, legal guardian, or
custodian of the child in writing of all of the following:
(a) That an incident has occurred that may constitute
maltreatment or injury of the child at school.
(b) When the incident occurred.
(c) The nature of the conduct that may constitute maltreatment
or injury.
(2) This section applies to any kind of intentional or
accidental maltreatment or injury, regardless of the cause or actor
involved.
(3) The requirement under this section is in addition to the
requirement to report suspected child abuse or neglect under
section 3 of the child protection law, 1975 PA 238, MCL 722.623.
(4) As used in this section, "at school" means in a classroom,
elsewhere on school premises, on a school bus or other school-
related vehicle, or at a school-sponsored activity or event whether
or not it is held on school premises.
