A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1531j.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1531j. Not later than January 1, 2014, the superintendent
of public instruction shall develop an alternative teaching
certificate that allows an individual to teach mathematics or
science in grades 6 to 12 if the individual meets all of the
following:
(a) Has passed both the basic skills examination under section
1531 and the appropriate available subject area examination under
section 1531 for each subject area in which he or she applies to be
certified.
(b) Has earned a bachelor's degree or advanced degree in
mathematics or science.
(c) Has successfully completed at least 1 upper level college
course covering lesson planning and classroom management and at
least 1 upper level college course covering testing, measurement,
and evaluation of students.
(d) Has successfully completed 1 full year of student
teaching.
