WEIGHTS & MEASURES: NIST HANDBOOKS S.B. 685:
SUMMARY OF INTRODUCED BILL
IN COMMITTEE
Senate Bill 685 (as introduced 11-14-13)
Sponsor: Senator Darwin L. Booher
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Weights and Measures Act to incorporate by reference standards published in the 2013 editions of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) handbooks. Currently, the Act incorporates by reference the standards published in the 2012 editions of the NIST handbooks for sales of commodities in Michigan.
The bill would refer to the standards included in the 2013 edition of NIST Handbook 130 for "Uniform Regulation for the Method of Sale of Commodities", "Uniform Packaging and Labeling Regulation", and "Uniform Regulation for the Voluntary Registration of Servicepersons and Service Agencies for Commercial Weighing and Measuring Devices". The bill also would incorporate by reference the standards published in the 2013 edition, rather than the 2012 edition, of Handbook 44, "Specifications, Tolerances, and Other Technical Requirements for Weighing and Measuring Devices".
