CHANGE VEHICLE REGISTRATION EXPIRATION

DATE FOR TRAILERS, SEMI-TRAILERS

House Bill 4634

Sponsor:  Rep. Wayne Schmidt

Committee:  Transportation and Infrastructure

Complete to 4-30-13

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4634 AS INTRODUCED 4-25-13

The bill would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to specify that the expiration date for a registration issued to a trailer or semitrailer owned by a business, corporation, or person other than an individual would be January 1 instead of the last day of February.  The expiration date for a registration issued to other commercial vehicles, except for a pickup truck or van owned by an individual, would continue to be the last day of February.

FISCAL IMPACT:

According to the Department of State (DOS), House Bill 4634 would have a negative, yet indeterminate, fiscal impact on the DOS to the extent that the DOS would have to reprogram its information technology systems to account for the changed expiration date for registration of specified trailers
