Fr. Santiago M. Hoyumpa, Father of St. Ann’s Church in Cadillac, offered the following invocation:
“Let us put ourselves in the presence of the Almighty Creator whose infinite goodness has sustained our lives with the beauty of His creation. So let us pray, Lord, almighty God, we acknowledge Your divine Providence that leads us into a better understanding of Your Will. Grant our legislature Your love with the wisdom and knowledge, as they labor through the challenges that may confront them, in their efforts to uphold human dignity of all the citizens in the state of Michigan. Make our legislature keep Your love in their hearts, so that they may not relinquish that love even in times of uncertainty, lack of hope or despair. Hasten the process to find common grounds, so as to find equitable solutions to problems facing the state of Michigan, so that authentic human development towards the fulfillment of Your divine creation gives relief for those who are suffering.
Lord, bless all of our State legislators with the gift of the Holy Spirit, that they remain steadfast to Your Will, for the truth of Your Word and the example of Christ’s life, that they may acknowledge our human dependency on You alone. Enlighten the hearts of our legislators, so that their best efforts may lead them to accomplishment which satisfy and delight, as reflection of Your goodness that will be experienced by all the people in our state of Michigan. Grant our prayer with Your grace and wisdom through Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, amen.”
