A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled
"Public health code,"
(MCL 333.1101 to 333.25211) by adding section 16626.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 16626. (1) Notwithstanding section 16601(1)(f) or the
rules promulgated under subsection 16625(1), a dental hygienist may
supervise a dental assistant who is acting as a second pair of
hands for the dental hygienist under subsection (2).
(2) Notwithstanding section 16601(1)(e) or the rules
promulgated under subsection 16625(1), a dental assistant, while
assisting a dentist or dental hygienist who at the time is actively
performing services in the mouth of a patient, may function as a
second pair of hands for the dentist or dental hygienist.
(3) As used in this section, "second pair of hands" means that
term as defined in R 338.11101 of the Michigan administrative code.
