Senate Bill 645 (as reported without amendment)
Sponsor: Senator Roger Kahn, M.D.
Committee: Judiciary
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Corrections Code to prohibit a prisoner from receiving or possessing either of the following:
-- An item belonging to a victim of the crime for which he or she was incarcerated, or that had formerly belonged to a victim of the crime.
-- Any photograph, drawing, or other visual image or representation of a victim of the crime.
The prohibition would not apply to an item, photograph, drawing, or other visual image or representation of an immediate family member of the victim if it were received and possessed with the permission of that immediate family member, and the Department of Corrections determined that receiving and possessing the item or image would not interfere with the prisoner's rehabilitation and did not violate the Department's rules or any other law.
