A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4315 AS ENROLLED

The bill amended the Michigan Memorial Highway Act to designate a portion of US-31 as the "Medal of Honor Recipients Highway."  This name applies beginning at the intersection of US-31 and highway I-196 in Allegan County and continuing north to the intersection of highway US-31 and highway M-45 in Ottawa County.

Under the act, the Department of Transportation is required to work with local Veterans organizations to develop a separate sign that could be posted at or near the memorial signage bearing the names of Lieutenant Colonel Matt Urban, Corporal Paul Essebagger, Jr., Sergeant Gordon Yntema, and Sergeant Paul Ronald Lambers.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Section 2 of the Michigan Memorial Highway Act indicates that the state transportation department shall only provide for the erection of suitable markers indicating the name of the highway "when sufficient private contributions are received to completely cover the cost of erecting and maintaining those markers."  As a result, the bill has no state or local fiscal impact.
