HOUSE BILL No. 4382

     A bill to amend 1976 PA 388, entitled

 

"Michigan campaign finance act,"

 

(MCL 169.201 to 169.282) by adding section 57a.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 57a. (1) A candidate or person <<

 

>> shall not solicit or accept a contribution in a facility

 

owned or leased by, or on behalf of, this state or a public body <<or

otherwise utilize the resources of a public body to solicit or accept a contribution>>.

 

     (2) Subsection (1) does not apply to a contribution solicited

 

or accepted in any of the following:

 

     (a) A facility owned or leased by, or on behalf of, the state

 

or a public body if that facility is primarily used as a family

 

dwelling and is not used to conduct a fund-raising event.

 

     (b) A facility owned or leased by, or on behalf of, the state

 

or a public body if any candidate has an equal opportunity to use

the facility.

 

     (3) A person who violates this section is guilty of a

 

misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 90 days or

 

a fine of not more than $1,000.00, or both<<, or if the person is

not an individual, by a fine of not more than $20,000.00 or the amount

of the contribution or expenditure, whichever is more>>.
