A bill to amend 1966 PA 346, entitled
"State housing development authority act of 1966,"
(MCL 125.1401 to 125.1499c) by adding section 44h.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 44h. (1) The armed forces member home ownership
assistance program is created in the authority. The program shall
provide loans, grants, or other assistance to persons who are or
were an eligible member of the armed forces of the United States.
If an eligible member is deceased, the surviving spouse of the
eligible member shall be eligible for assistance under the program
if the surviving spouse meets other eligibility requirements.
(2) The authority shall loan up to $5,000.00 to an eligible
member or the qualified surviving spouse of an eligible member to
be used toward the purchase of a home in this state.
(3) As used in this section, "eligible member of the armed
forces of the United States" means a resident of this state who is
or was a member of the national guard, reserve, or regular
component of the armed forces of the United States and who has
served at least 90 days of active duty during the period that
begins on September 11, 2001 and that ends on June 30, 2008.
