A bill to amend 1931 PA 328, entitled
"The Michigan penal code,"
(MCL 750.1 to 750.568) by adding section 66.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 66. (1) As used in this section:
(a) "Bird" means any fowl grown for human consumption.
(b) "Force-feeding" means to deliver food by placing a tube or
other device into the esophagus of a bird and includes any other
feeding method designed to cause the ingestion of an amount of food
by the bird that exceeds the amount that would be ingested
voluntarily by a bird of that species.
(2) A person who engages in the force-feeding of a bird, or
who directs an employee to engage in the force-feeding of a bird,
is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than
$1,000.00.
(3) A person who knowingly trades in, or offers to trade in,
products derived from force-feeding a bird is guilty of a
misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than $1,000.00 per
day.
