The bill would amend the Michigan Vehicle Code to do the following:
-- Permit a vehicle owned by a volunteer member of an emergency management unit of a local governmental entity, if authorized by that entity, to be equipped with flashing, rotating, or oscillating amber lights, which could be used only at the scene of a spill, emergency response action, complaint, or compliance activity.
-- Permit an authorized emergency vehicle to be equipped with flashing, rotating, or oscillating green lights, for use only when that vehicle was the on-site command vehicle at the scene of an emergency.
-- Permit certain vehicles-including vehicles used to perform public utility service, trash collection, highway repair and maintenance, or snow removal; vehicles used by peace officers, rural letter carriers, or newspaper delivery people; and implements of husbandry, certain military vehicles, and vehicles escorting or transporting an oversized load--to display white, as well as amber, flashing, rotating or oscillating lights.
