A REVISED SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4848 (SUBSTITUTE H-2)

The bill would amend the Building Officials and Inspectors Registration Act, 1986 PA 54, to increase the registration fee for building officials, inspectors, and plan reviewers from $10 per year (on a three-year cycle) to $25 per year (on a three-year cycle).  The current renewal cycle expires in mid-September 2009.  The fee has not been adjusted since enactment of the act in 1986. The increased fees would be in place throughSeptember 30, 2012, at which time the fee schedule would revert back to the current fee schedule.  (The same sunset date is in place for many of the occupational licenses/registrations under the State License Fee Act, 1979 PA 152,MCL 338.2201 et seq.)

FISCAL IMPACT:

The bill would increase Construction Code Fund revenue by approximately $205,000 in Fiscal Year 2008-09, and by $15,000 in Fiscal Year 2009-10.
