Senate Bill 1403 (as reported from HAC)
Committee: Appropriations
First Analysis (12-03-08 )
The bill authorizes the Department of Management and Budget to sell the former Woodward Corrections Center to Wayne State University for $1.00. However, WSU must use the facility for public purposes. The facility is an old motel that was purchased in 1987 by the Department of Corrections and converted into a parole facility. It has been closed since 2005.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Net proceeds from the sale are to be deposited into the state's General Fund. Also, the DOC spends about $130,000 annually for maintenance and security of the facility.
