     A bill to amend 1964 PA 154, entitled

 

"Minimum wage law of 1964,"

 

by amending section 4 (MCL 408.384), as amended by 1997 PA 2.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 4. (1) Subject to the exceptions specified in this act,

 

the minimum hourly wage rate shall be:

 

     (a) Beginning January 1, 1981, $3.35.

 

     (b) Beginning May 1, 1997, $4.75.

 

     (a)  (c)  Beginning September 1, 1997, $5.15.

 

     (b) Beginning July 1, 2005, $5.90.

 

     (c) Beginning January 1, 2006, $6.65.

 

     (d) Beginning January 1, 2007, $7.15.

 

     (2) Beginning January 1, 2008, the amount described in

 


subsection (1)(d) shall be adjusted annually to reflect the

 

cumulative annual percentage change in the consumer price index. As

 

used in this subsection, "consumer price index" means the most

 

recent comprehensive index of consumer prices available for this

 

state from the bureau of labor statistics of the United States

 

department of labor.
