A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled
"Michigan vehicle code,"
(MCL 257.1 to 257.923) by adding section 312g.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 312g. (1) A person, before operating a motorcycle upon a
public street or highway in this state without wearing a crash
helmet on his or her head, shall procure a no-helmet endorsement on
his or her operator's or chauffeur's license, which shall be
issued, suspended, revoked, canceled, or renewed as provided in
this act. An endorsement under this section may only be issued to
an individual who has complied with the requirements of section 658
exempting the individual from the helmet requirement and shall
present any evidence of compliance as the secretary of state may
require.
(2) Every application for a no-helmet endorsement shall be
accompanied by the following fees, which shall be in addition to
any other original or renewal operator license fee, original or
renewal chauffeur license fee, or original or renewal motorcycle
endorsement fee:
Original no-helmet endorsement.......................... $25.00
Renewal of no-helmet endorsement........................ $25.00
(3) A no-helmet endorsement issued under this section is valid
for 1 year. A no-helmet endorsement shall be renewed in the same
manner provided for procuring an original no-helmet endorsement.
(4) The money received and collected under this section shall
be credited to the general fund.
