A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6075 AS INTRODUCED 5-17-06
The bill would amend the Aeronautics Code of the State of Michigan to impose a specific penalty for trespassing at an airport, landing field, or other aeronautical facility. The offense would be a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than one year and/or a fine of not more than $1,000. Currently the code prohibits trespassing but does not provide a specific penalty.
[Section 176 of the act says, Except as otherwise provided in this act, a person who violates this act is responsible for a state civil infraction as provided for in Chapter 88 of the Revised Judicature Act . . . and is subject to a civil fine of not more than $500.]
MCL 259.184
FISCAL IMPACT:
Depending on how the bill affected the numbers of offenders convicted of misdemeanors, it could increase local correctional costs of incarceration and misdemeanor probation, which vary by jurisdiction. Any increase in fine revenues could benefit local libraries, which are the constitutionally-designated recipients of such revenues.
