House Bill 5327

Sponsor:  Rep. Jerry O. Kooiman

Committee:  Health Policy

Complete to 5-8-06

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5327 AS INTRODUCED 10-18-05

Currently, the Michigan Board of Nursing has 23 members:  nine registered professional nurses, one nurse midwife, one nurse anesthetist, one nurse practitioner, three licensed practical nurses, and eight public members.

House Bill 5327 would amend the Public Health Code to require that, of the 23 members, there be at least one representative from each of the health service areas in the state.  "Health service area" would be defined by the bill to mean the geographic area established for a health systems agency under former Section 1511 of the federal Public Health Services Act, 42 USC 300l.

MCL 333.17221

FISCAL IMPACT:

The bill would have no fiscal impact on the state or local units of government.
