A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4266 AS INTRODUCED 2-15-05
The Fire Fighters and Police Officers Retirement Act is a statutory framework used by local governments to administer pension programs for full-time police and fire fighters. Setting up a retirement system under the act is optional for local units of government, but once a unit establishes a system under the act, it must follow the requirements of the act.
The bill would amend the act by deleting provisions that 1) require the retirement board to retire a member of the system at age 60 upon the written application of the legislative body of a local unit; and 2) require the retirement board to retire a member who is 65 years of age on the first day of the month following the member's 65th birthday.
MCL 38.556 et al.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The bill would have an indeterminate fiscal impact.
