A bill to amend 1893 PA 118, entitled
"An act to revise and consolidate the laws relative to state
prisons, to state houses of correction, and branches of state
prisons and reformatories, and the government and discipline
thereof and to repeal all acts inconsistent therewith,"
by amending section 61 (MCL 800.61), as amended by 2002 PA 89.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 61.(1) Whenever
any convict shall escape If a
2 prisoner escapes from a prison
state correctional facility, the
3 warden shall take all proper measures for the apprehension of the
4 convict prisoner, and for that purpose he or she
may the
5 department of corrections shall offer a reward not exceeding
6 $50.00 of $10,000.00 for the apprehension and
delivery of that
7 convict; but with the
consent of his or her board the reward may
8 be increased to a sum
not exceeding $500.00 prisoner.
All
9 suitable rewards and other sums of money, necessarily paid for
10 advertising and
apprehending any convict who may escape from
1 prison an escaped prisoner, shall be audited by the
state
2 treasurer , and
paid out of the state treasury.
3 (2) If any
an escaped prisoner shall be retaken is
4 captured, the time between the escape and his or her
5 recommittal return to a state correctional facility shall
not
6 be computed as part of
the term of imprisonment, but he or she
7 and the prisoner shall
remain in the prison state correctional
8 facility a sufficient length of time after the term of his or her
9 sentence would have expired, if he or she had not escaped, to
10 equal the period of time
he or she may have been was absent by
11 reason of the escape.
