A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled
"Michigan election law,"
by amending section 795b (MCL 168.795b), as amended by 1990 PA
109.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 Sec. 795b. (1) Ballot labels shall be printed or displayed
2 in plain, clear, black type on white surface. Questions may be
3 printed or displayed on red tinted surface and the names of
4 candidates for nonpartisan offices on blue tinted surface.
5 County questions may be printed or displayed on green tinted
6 surface and local questions may be printed or displayed on buff
7 surface. In a primary election to identify each political party,
8 the titles of offices and the names of candidates may be arranged
9 in vertical columns or in a series of separate pages or
10 displays. The office title with a statement of the number of
1 candidates to be voted for shall be printed or displayed above or
2 at the side of the names of the candidates for that office. The
3 offices and candidates shall be printed or displayed in the order
4 provided by law, or if no such provision is made, in the order
5 prescribed by the board of election commissioners of the county,
6 city, village, township, or school district. If there are more
7 candidates for an office than can be printed or displayed in 1
8 column or on 1 page or display, the ballot label shall be clearly
9 marked that the list of candidates is continued on the following
10 column, page, or display, and so far as possible, the same number
11 of names shall be printed or displayed on each column, page, or
12 display. Arrows or other directional signs may be used to
13 indicate the place to vote for each candidate or question. For
14 partisan candidates, the typeface used to print the political
15 party designation for each candidate listed on the ballot shall
16 meet 1 of the following requirements, whichever is smaller:
17 (a) Be at least 12-point typeface.
18 (b) Be at least the size of the typeface used for the
19 candidate's name.
20 (2) Ballots that are processed through electronic tabulating
21 equipment after the elector has voted shall have an attached,
22 numbered, perforated stub.
