A bill to amend 1994 PA 451, entitled
"Natural resources and environmental protection act,"
(MCL 324.101 to 324.90106) by adding part 173.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
1 PART 173 DRUG DISPOSAL
2 Sec. 17301. As used in this part:
3 (a) "Department" means the department of environmental
4 quality.
5 (b) "Prescription drug" means that term as defined in
6 section 17708 of the public health code, 1978 PA 368,
7 MCL 333.17708.
8 Sec. 17303. By January 1, 2005, the department and the
9 department of community health shall jointly develop and
10 implement a program for the safe disposal of prescription drugs,
11 including, but not limited to, the recycling of prescription
1 drugs if such recycling is feasible. In developing the program,
2 the department and the department of community health shall
3 consult with pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, physicians,
4 consumers, and other interested parties. The program shall
5 include consumer education and demonstration projects for sites
6 for consumers to dispose of prescription drugs.
7 Sec. 17305. The department and the department of community
8 health may jointly or separately promulgate rules necessary for
9 the implementation of this part.
