A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 6055 AS INTRODUCED 6-24-04
House Bill 6055 would amend the Playground Equipment Safety Act to require that a local unit of government, school district, or governmental entity that owned and operated public playground equipment post a notice on all playground equipment containing chromated copper arsenate. The notice would be required to state that the equipment contained the substance, and to recommend hand washing after contact. The notice could also include information concerning the health risks associated with chromated copper arsenate.
Currently under the law, local units of government, school districts, and governmental entities that own and operate public playground equipment are responsible for its maintenance, repair, and upkeep according to standards identified in the act. Under the bill, these provisions would be retained, and the requirement to provide notice of chromated copper arsenate would be added.
MCL 408.686
FISCAL IMPACT:
There would be no fiscal impact on the State and an indeteminate impact on local governmental units and school districts. The actual cost would depend on the number of signs needed to comply with this act. This would depend, further, on the number of playground structures found to contain chromated copper arsenate."
