A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 5775 AS INTRODUCED 4-20-04

House Bill 5775 would amend Public Act 142 of 2001, the Michigan Memorial Highway Act, (MCL 250.1001 et seq.) by adding Section 69 to designate highway US-131 in Kent County as the "Casimir Pulaski Way.”  Casimir Pulaski was a Polish patriot who assisted the American cause during the war of independence.  He was mortally wounded at the battle of Savannah in 1779.

The bill would also amend Section 17 of the Act to delete subsection (2) which designates a portion of US-131 as the “Mackinac Trail.”

FISCAL IMPACT:

Section 2 of PA 142 indicates that the state transportation department shall only provide for the erection of suitable markers indicating the name of the highway "when sufficient private contributions are received to completely cover the cost of erecting and maintaining those markers."  As a result, the bill has no state or local fiscal impact.
