AMEND DEFINITION OF "CHILDREN'S CAMPS"

House Bill 4928

Sponsor:  Rep. Chris Ward

Committee:  Family and Children Services

Complete to 9-8-03

A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4928 AS INTRODUCED 7-2-03

The bill would amend the definition of “children’s camps” included in the Child Care Licensing Act (Public Act 116 of 1973).  Under the act, a children’s camp is defined to mean any residential, day, troop, or travel camp that is conducted in a natural environment for more than 4 school-age children, apart from their parents, relatives, or legal guardians, for at least 5 days in a 14-day period.  The bill would alter the time requirement in the definition of “children’s camps” so that it would apply to camps that care for children for not more than 7 days in a 14-day period.
