A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILL 4241 AS INTRODUCED 2-18-03
Under the Public Health Code, the Department of Consumer and Industry Services is required to make certain visits to and inspections of licensed health facilities, including nursing homes. However, a visit made to investigate a complaint is to be unannounced. The bill would specifically require that, in addition to visits made to investigate complaints, the department annually make at least two unannounced visits to each county medical care facility and hospice residence, and also to make at least two annual unannounced visits to and inspect each licensed nursing home, regardless of whether the nursing home is certified for Medicare or Medicaid.
In addition, the bill would change a date in a provision that requires each member of a CIS survey team who is a licensed health professional to earn one-half of his or her required continuing education credits in geriatric care. This requirement was to be met beginning with the person's first full relicensure period after June 20, 2000. The bill would change the date to June 20, 2001.
