A SUMMARY OF HOUSE BILLS 4051 AND 4052 AS INTRODUCED 1-28-03
The bills would prohibit benefit cards from insurance companies or Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan from displaying an insured's or a member's Social Security number. The bills would take effect January 1, 2004. House Bill 4051 would amend the Nonprofit Health Care Corporation Reform Act, which regulates Blue Cross and Blue Shield (MCL 550.1406a). House Bill 4052 would amend the Insurance Code (MCL 500.490).
