Dr. Bishop Jesse I. King, Pastor of Body of Christ Church in Detroit, offered the following invocation:
"Dear holy and gracious Father, as we come before You, Father, we are thanking and praising You for all that You have done. Father, we ask, in the name of Jesus, that You continue to bless this assembly and bless this House, Father; that You will let love and unity flow here in Jesus' name, Father; that you will bring them together in one accord, Father; that we, as Your people, will know the love that we see that generates from this place that we will live accordingly in our neighborhoods and in our community. Father, we thank You and we praise You. Father God, You said trials of our faith brings forth perfection. Sometimes, Father, we don't agree about all things, but Father, we agree about one thing--You are holy and righteous.
Father, we ask You, in the name of Jesus, that You will look upon these honorable people and that You will bless them to make decisions that will influence our children and that will influence our community. Father, we thank You and praise You, Father God, that You put them here--it was not about our votes but it was by Your power and by Your will. We thank You and praise You for it. Father, we ask You, in the name of Jesus, that You continue to strengthen them, to lead and direct them and to guide them in all truth, in Jesus' name. We give You the honor. We give You the praise. We give You the glory. Let all of us be on one accord to do the will to help our brothers. In Jesus' name. Amen."
