A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the state con- stitution of 1963, by amending section 12 of article IV, to pro- vide that the state officers compensation commission's determina- tion of certain salaries and expense allowances become effective only upon approval by the legislature for the following legisla- tive session. Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the state of Michigan, That the following amendment to the state con- stitution of 1963, to provide that the state officers compensa- tion commission's determination of certain salaries and expense allowances become effective only upon approval by the legislature for the following legislative session, is proposed, agreed to, and submitted to the people of the state: 02138'01 * JLB 2 1 ARTICLE IV 2 Sec. 12. The state officers compensation commission is cre- 3 ated which shall determine the salaries and expense allowances of 4 the members of the legislature, the governor, the lieutenant 5 governor, THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, THE SECRETARY OF STATE, and the 6 justices of the supreme court. The commission shall consist of 7 7 members appointed by the governor.TheSUBJECT TO LEGISLATIVE 8 AMENDMENT AS PROVIDED IN THIS SECTION, THE commission shall 9 determine the salaries and expense allowances of the members of 10 the legislature, the governor, the lieutenant governor, THE 11 ATTORNEY GENERAL, THE SECRETARY OF STATE, and the justices of the 12 supreme court which determinations shall be the salaries and 13 expense allowancesunlessONLY IF the legislature by concurrent 14 resolution adopted by2/3A MAJORITY of the members elected to 15 and serving in each house of the legislaturerejectAPPROVE 16 them. The CONCURRENT RESOLUTION MAY AMEND THE SALARY AND EXPENSE 17 DETERMINATIONS OF THE STATE OFFICERS COMPENSATION COMMISSION TO 18 REDUCE 1 OR MORE OF THE SALARY AND EXPENSE DETERMINATIONS. IF 19 THE SALARY AND EXPENSE DETERMINATIONS ARE APPROVED AS PROVIDED IN 20 THIS SECTION, THE SALARY AND EXPENSE DETERMINATIONS SHALL BECOME 21 EFFECTIVE FOR THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE 22 NEXT GENERAL ELECTION. EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED BY THE LEG- 23 ISLATURE, THE commission shall meet each 2 years for no more than 24 15 session days.
