        A bill to prohibit state agencies from requesting

   individuals' social security numbers.

               THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

             Sec. 1.  As used in this act, "state agency" means a depart-

        ment, board, commission, office, agency, authority, or other unit

 3
        of state government, or an individual or entity contracting with

 4
        the state or a state department to provide services.

 5
             Sec. 2.  Except as otherwise provided by law or for reason

 6
        of employment, a state agency shall not collect individuals'

 7
        social security numbers.
