A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled "Michigan election law," by amending section 176 (MCL 168.176). THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT: 1 Sec. 176. The office of state senator or representative 2 shall become BECOMES vacant on the happening of any of the fol- 3 lowing events, before the expiration of the term of such THAT 4 office: 5 (A) The INCUMBENT'S death. of the incumbent; his 6 (B) THE INCUMBENT'S resignation. ; his 7 (C) THE INCUMBENT'S removal from office. ; his ceasing to 8 be an inhabitant of 9 (D) THE INCUMBENT CEASES TO BE A QUALIFIED AND REGISTERED 10 ELECTOR OF the district for which he shall have been FROM WHICH 11 HE OR SHE WAS elected. ; the 07222'02 GWH 2 1 (E) A decision of a competent tribunal declaring void his OR 2 HER election or appointment. ; or his 3 (F) HIS OR HER refusal or neglect to take and subscribe to 4 his THE oath of office. 5 (G) THE EXPIRATION OF 7 DAYS AFTER THE STATE SENATOR OR 6 STATE REPRESENTATIVE IS CERTIFIED AS ELECTED TO AN OFFICE IN THE 7 OPPOSITE CHAMBER OF THE LEGISLATURE. 8 (2) Regardless of any A change in the boundaries of any 9 A state senatorial or representative district, an incumbent state 10 senator or representative shall continue to represent the dis- 11 trict from which he OR SHE was elected until his OR HER current 12 term of office shall expire or his EXPIRES OR HIS OR HER suc- 13 cessor is elected and qualified. 07222'02 Final page.
